Matthew French is the Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Track & Field, as well as the Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country. During his ten-plus years of coaching at Suffolk, both programs and their coaching staff have guided several student-athletes to the NJCAA titles of National Champion and All-American. The last three academic years (2011-2014) garnered five individual national titles (women’s shot put and discus throw, men’s long jump, men's triple jump, and women's long jump) and twenty-one All-American honors (including men's XC and women’s XC, 400-meter hurdles, 800-meters, heptathlon, 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays). In 2007 the Women’s Cross Country team won the NJCAA National Championship.
French is a Professional Assistant for the Physical Education Department at the Ammerman Campus. He was a national-caliber junior-college athlete and member of the 1985 Region XV championship cross country team at Suffolk, as well as an All-County runner at Longwood High School. French received his BA in English from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he was a member of the Salukis' NCAA Division 1 cross country team.
