Matt French is the head coach for men’s and women’s track & field (2012-present) and cross country (2014-present). During his many years of coaching at Suffolk, these programs and their coaching staff have guided several student-athletes and their teams to the NJCAA titles of National Champion and All-American.
The last seven academic years (2011-2018) garnered three national championship team titles (2015 women's XC; 2016 men's and women's track & field), twenty-two national individual titles, and fifty-six NJCAA All-Americans. In 2007, French was the assistant coach to the women's cross country NJCAA national champions.

French is a Professional Assistant for the Physical Education Department at the Ammerman Campus. He was a national-caliber junior-college athlete and member of the 1985 Region XV championship cross country team at Suffolk, as well as an All-County runner at Longwood High School. French received his BA in English from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he was a member of the Salukis' NCAA Division I cross country team.
