Matt French is the head coach for men’s and women’s track & field (2012-present) and cross country/half-marathon (2014-present). During his fifteen-plus years of coaching at Suffolk, these programs and their coaching staff have guided several student-athletes and their teams to the NJCAA titles of National Champion and All-American.
The last five academic years (2011-2016) garnered three national championship team titles (2015 women's XC; 2016 men's and women's track & field), twenty national individual titles, and eighty-four NJCAA All-American honors. In 2007, French was the assistant coach to the women's cross country NJCAA national champions.
French was selected as National Coach of the Year (3x), Northeast Region COY (3x), and Region XV COY (2x) during the academic year of 2015-16.
French is a Professional Assistant for the Physical Education Department at the Ammerman Campus. He was a national-caliber junior-college athlete and member of the 1985 Region XV championship cross country team at Suffolk, as well as an All-County runner at Longwood High School. French received his BA in English from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he was a member of the Salukis' NCAA Division I cross country team.
