Matt French is the head coach for men’s and women’s track & field (2012-present) and cross country (2014-present). During his many years of coaching at Suffolk, these programs and their coaching staff have guided several student-athletes and their teams to the NJCAA titles of National Champion and All-American.
The last six academic years (2011-2017) garnered three national championship team titles (2015 women's XC; 2016 men's and women's track & field), twenty national individual titles, and forty-seven NJCAA All-Americans. In 2007, French was the assistant coach to the women's cross country NJCAA national champions.
French has been selected as National Coach of the Year (3x), Northeast Region COY (3x), and Region XV COY (3x).
French is a Professional Assistant for the Physical Education Department at the Ammerman Campus. He was a national-caliber junior-college athlete and member of the 1985 Region XV championship cross country team at Suffolk, as well as an All-County runner at Longwood High School. French received his BA in English from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he was a member of the Salukis' NCAA Division I cross country team.
